Belize is known as “mother nature’s best
kept secret” with the worlds 2nd biggest barrier reef, three hundred
kilometers in length. Belize is located between Mexico and Guatemala. The
official language is English, with that being said Belize is the only Central

The best time to travel to
Belize City is during the winter months and the beginning of spring, December to
April, when it’s a cooler and drier time of year. September to October is a low
season for tourist arrivals because of the tropical storms and hurricane
seasons. During this time very little hotel and restaurants are open. On Sundays
all businesses are closed, absolutely nothing is open; it’s like a ghost
town.
The best way to get around Belize City is
by taxis or on foot during the day in a safe area like Fort George. Hitch
hiking is a very inexpensive way to get from place to place because it’s free.
This method of transportation is commonly used with the locals, but not
recommended with tourist.
The Belizean dollar is close to the US dollar.
Two Belize dollars equals one US dollar, although US dollar is accepted all
though Belize. ATMS are accessible is most tourist destinations.
Take a scenic flight and enjoy the
beautiful view of Belize City, the worlds 2nd longest barrier reef
and many other sites like the Baron Bliss Lighthouse and the St. John’s
Cathedral. Or, take a private helicopter ride over the Blue Hole of Belize, a
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the museum of Belize which was once a prison
in the 19th century. The museum is based on the history of Belize as
well as the history of the prison. They even have one of their old jail cells
still open for tours. Take a trip to the Belize Zoo and see over one 125 animals
like jaguars, storks, and crocodiles. If you love scuba diving or snorkelling
head to the famous barrier reef. Stop by St. John’s Cathedral, Belize’s oldest
building that was built by slaves over the course of eight
years.
Attend the Independence Day Parade on
September 21st celebrating the day Belizeans got their independence
from Great Britain with a big parade. Everyone wears the Belizean colours, blue,
red, and white. The National Arts Festival is normally in February at Central
Park which showcases local jewelers, painters, sculptors, and tattoo artist.
Celebrate Sir Barry Bowen’s life, the creator of the beer brewing empire in
Belize. They call it the Sir Barry’s Bellikin Bash which happens in September at
memorial park where popular Belizean artist perform live. They
also have beer keg contests with lots of food, and people dance all night long.
Celebrity is a popular Restaurant that
offers American style steaks and sandwiches; Mexican style fajitas and
quesadillas, and pastas; Mediterranean style hummus, kofta and kebabs. But, sea
food is the chef’s specialty. Nerie’s Restaurant has a menu for
those that want to try something new and different. Try their curried lamb,
gibnut, stewed cow foot or deer. Cenie’s Deli is a breakfast café. Eggs, bacon,
pancakes and many more is offered on their menu.
